Street Addresses vs. PO Boxes

If the official rules of a sweepstakes do NOT specify "No P.O. Boxes," then you may use either your home street address or your Post Office Box. There are a few sweepstakes, however, that do specify that you do not use your P.O. Box to enter.

This is usually done for a few reasons. The main reason is due to delivery services. UPS, Fed-X, and other delivery services will not ship packages to a P.O. Box. Another reason is demographics. The sponsors would like to know where the concentration of entrants is coming from, and sometimes people get Post Office Boxes in towns or states that they don't necessarily live in (closer to work, etc.). Yet a third reason is to keep things fair. If the sweepstakes has a limitation of one entry per person or household, having a P.O. Box will not allow you a second entry. Some people send in entries for both locations (which is a can of worms we're not going to open...). :-)

If you live in a rural town in which your only way of getting mail is through a Post Office Box and you don't receive home delivery, we suggest that you provide both your street address AND your Post Office Box number, and make a notation on your entry that mail is not delivered to your street address through the US Postal Service. Typically, if a judging agency or sponsor sees a statement like this, they will call you to confirm a delivery location for you.
