What were the most popular commemorative stamps last year? The popularity of stamps is measured through quarterly surveys mailed to about 60,000 households across the nation.

According to the US Post Office, the most popular commemorative stamps of 1998 were:

Sylvester and Tweety, 37.9 million; Celebrate the Century 1920s, 34.2 million; Celebrate the Century 1900s, 31.5 million; Celebrate the Century 1930s, 31.1 million; classic movie monsters, 26.1 million; Celebrate the Century 1910s, 18.1 million; U.S. Air Force 1947-1997, 16.9 million; tropical birds, 16.6 million; Alfred Hitchcock, 16.2 million; and flowering trees, 15.3 million.

The all-time most popular U.S. postage stamp was the 1993 Elvis Presley commemorative, of which more than 124 million were printed and sold.
